Chelsy

This is Chelsy, an 11-week old, 2 pound female poodle puppy rescued from the Naples Humane Society. She was due to be euthanized because she has a heart defect called PDA, a condition in which there is an irregular transmission of blood between two of the most important arteries close to the heart, the aorta and the pulmonary artery. It will require costly surgery to repair, but we strongly feel this baby deserves a chance at being part of a loving family.

In addition to her heart problem, Chelsy also has eyelashes on the inside of her left eye, which is why she appears to be squinting. Can you imagine how painful that must be? This condition will also require surgical intervention. All this misfortune and she isn't even 3 months old yet.

UPDATE 1/17/11:

We just learned Chelsy has pulmonic valve stenosis, not PDA. She is currently on drugs to help her heart work more effectively and with less strain, but she needs a Balloon Pulmonic Valvuloplasty soon in order to prevent heart damage. This surgery will cost $3000-$3500 and we are desperate for donations to help us save this little one. Please, can you help?
